Dirt Track Racing In District 36 Is On!

The 2016 Dirt Track season is fully underway with the first race held at Lodi Cycle Bowl April 23rd already in the books.  Unfortunately the second race, round 2 was rained out but it got a whole lot better just this past weekend when Lodi Motorcycle Club and Stockton Motorcycle Club held a double header at the Lodi Cycle Bowl with rounds 2 & 3 of the District 36 Championship Dirt Track Series.  Saturday night’s race had a tremendous turnout of 180 racers that made for a whole lot of exciting racing for the evening.   With 90 racers taking turns on the starting grid in their respective classes on Sunday the racing was just as intense both for the competitors and spectators as well.

Some handlebar-to-handlebar racing goin’ on!

The track worked in nicely and the main events were entertaining and exciting to say the least.   Watching the experts kept us on the edge of our seats for the entire race.  The competition was strong with Open A, Michael Inderbitzen and Damon Coca dueling for the checkered flag.  Beau Thompson really showed well with some great racing and in the end Michael took the lead in the final laps to win the race.

As a bonus, on Saturday night we were treated with an exhibition race of gas powered carts.  The drivers really put on a show with these carts running laps in the 14 second range.   There was a lot of Indications that these little speedsters will be coming back for two or three of the upcoming events, so if you missed them this time stay tuned for the next opportunity.

This coming Friday, May 20th the Lodi Motorcycle Club is hosting their annual “Night Before The Mile”.  This is a “Don’t miss” event for local Dirt Track Racing with the Pro riders from the GNC coming to compete as a warm up for the Sacramento Mile to be held the next day.  The Pro’s will be there to compete and test the strength of their competitors in the next day’s mile race.  But don’t think they won’t be racing hard, they’re also competing for a $10,000 purse!

In addition to the Pro’s, racing will include some select classes from the amateur competitors.  These racers are serious about their sport and most are working towards turning Pro.

A special thank you goes out to the members of the Lodi MC Club and the Stockton MC Club for their hard work involved in putting on an exciting two days of racing!

See you at the races!

The amazing feedback we received from the racers at the event was simply overwhelming. The amount of work and dedication that comes from the handful of people that are setting up the course from sun up to sun down days before the event and then working the course all weekend never get to hear the appreciation. Having videos, photos and comments like this from you make it all worth it. Thank You!

Wild Piglet Canceled

Canceled

The Timekeepers Wild Piglet, Round 1 of the D36 SRT Championship Youth Enduro Series, rescheduled for Saturday May 7th has been canceled for this weekend by the Hollister Hills SVRA due to rain. Unfortunately, the Adobe and Renz portions of the park that used for this event are very sensitive to rain and become inaccessible by emergency vehicles when the ground is too wet.  The Timekeepers MC will explore possible reschedule dates or other options.

Jones Bill to Restore and Protect Off-Highway Vehicle Funding

Clears Assembly Transportation Committee

SACRAMENTO – A bill by Assemblyman Brian Jones (R- Santee) to stop the state from taking money from off-highway vehicles (OHV) passed unanimously out of the Assembly Transportation Committee on Monday.

“California’s OHV program allows people to go off-road and into nature so that they can enjoy the beauty of our state,” Jones said. “OHV users pay fees to participate in this program, and it is wrong for the state to spend their money on completely unrelated projects.”

In 2011, the Legislature passed a law to divert $10 million paid by OHV users from the Off-Highway Vehicle Trust Fund to the General Fund. As a result, the OHV program has faced financial difficulties. The Legislative Analyst predicts that the state will have an $11.5 billion surplus in the 2016–17 fiscal years, which means it is no longer necessary to use OHV funds to backfill the General Fund. Assembly Bill 2175 will eliminate the diversion to the General Fund, and restore funding for OHV recreation.

“I am glad that the Assembly Transportation Committee agreed that OHV users deserve to benefit from the fees they are paying,” Jones said. “This is common sense legislation that will help Californians enjoy OHV recreation for years to come.”

AB 2175 is now headed to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
