Oppose Tariffs On EU Motorcycles, parts, & Accessories

Oppose tariffs on EU motorcycles parts, and accessories

Sign the petition today!

The Office of United States Trade Representative, as part of a dispute over aircraft subsidies, has proposed 100 percent tariffs on motorcycles imported from countries in the European Union with an engine size between 500cc and 700cc, along with parts and accessories.

The American Motorcyclist Association is joining others in the motorcycling community to oppose the USTR’s latest ill-conceived proposal. Motorcyclists should not be penalized with exorbitant tariffs because of an unrelated trade dispute. Any trade sanctions imposed as a result of this dispute should come from more closely related industries or products.

To oppose this tariff, the AMA is asking our members to sign this petition. The petition will be presented to the USTR to demonstrate the motorcycling public’s opposition to the proposal. Please take a moment and complete the form below to protect the future of motorcycling.

Take Action

Motorcyclists who depend on parts from Europe to keep their motorcycles in safe, working order will face increased cost and decreased availability under this proposal. This will result in motorcyclists putting off critical maintenance and will keep their vehicles off the road, negatively affecting the countless small businesses that depend on motorcycle-based tourism. Additionally, this proposed tariff will cause serious, and potentially irreversible, harm to American small- and medium-sized business owners selling the motorcycles, parts and accessories.

Should the availability of products be hindered through unjustified trade sanctions on European-produced motorcycles, dealerships may close, leaving countless Americans without jobs. The negative effects of the proposed trade sanctions will not only harm the motorcycle sales industry, but will spread through the aftermarket equipment sector, recreation equipment sales, the sports entertainment industry and further down the line.

CODE RED SB 767 CARNEGIE SVRA ACTION ALERT

“The Only Good OHV Area is a Closed OHV Area”

ACTIONS REQUIRED – Send Letters STAT and RSVP if You Can Attend July 3 Hearing in Sacramento!

It’s no secret that family-based OHV recreation at Carnegie SVRA remains under attack by a small band of fiercely dedicated and well-funded environmental attorneys, political activists, and sympathetic legislators.  20 years ago one of those actors stated, “The only good OHV area is a closed OHV area.”

In recent times, that cadre of anti-OHV zealots has adopted a highly effective trifecta of litigation, legislation, and regulation to not only block opening of the acquisition property at Carnegie SVRA but to close 20% of the current riding area at the unit.

Many of you have already sent in letters to the legislature as SB 767 journeyed through the CA Senate and now is on its way through the CA Assembly.  As the political temperature of this bill heats it is now time, if possible, to attend a July 3 hearing for SB 767 before the Assembly Accountability and Administrative Review Committee at 9:30 a.m. in Room 437 at the State Capitol.  Wear your club’s shirt or jersey.  Your attendance will make a strong visual statement about your support for OHV recreation at Carnegie SVRA.

AMA District 36 thanks the many of you who have already sent in letters to the legislature as SB 767 journeyed through the CA Senate. Today as the bill makes its way through the CA Assembly we are asking that you send another letter to your state representative stating your opposition to SB 767 and include a short personal note about why OHV at Carnegie SVRA is important to you and your family.

FIND YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE HERE

The AMA District 36 government affairs professional staff will be there and looks forward to standing shoulder to shoulder with you at this important July 3 hearing.  Let’s remember on this 4th of July that FREEDOM is not FREE and requires constant vigil.

Thanks for your support of responsible OHV recreation on public lands for current and future generations.

ACTION ALERT – Carnegie Saga Continues at April 9th Hearing!

On April 9, 2019, the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee will hold a hearing on legislation (SB 767) introduced by Senator Glazer which is a new version of the Carnegie bill that we defeated

last year.  It is not as bad as the earlier version because it does not have us selling the park at rock bottom 1992 prices.

However, the bill is still problematic.  It calls for a hearing to review the mission of the park and provides a structure for selling it to local entities for environmental purposes. The consequence to every state purchase is obvious.

Your D36 LAO Program has initiated meetings in the Capitol and is currently opposing the bill.  The LAO will be testifying at the hearing and is also working to forge a solution that gets us out of this permanent limbo.   This is just the beginning of a long legislative process that will extend into the summer.

In the meantime, the LAO is urging D36 members to send in letters using the AMA’s Grassroots Action Network System.  AMA is an important partner and the LAO appreciates their work on this issue.

Walker Ridge OHV Riding Area A Potential Wind Farm?

District 36 LAO ACCESS ALERT

Rendition of what Walker Ridge would look like with wind mills

The D36 LAO has just learned that the BLM as hired a Walker Ridge Project Manager who started work on April 1, 2019.  The energy companies associated with this project are the Colusa Wind Energy LLC (CWE) that is owned by Salka Energy, Algonquin Utilities Power Corporation, and Liberty Power Corporation.  D36 also understands the BLM has signed a MOU with CWE.

D36 understands that a lot of its members ride off-road motorcycles in the Walker Ridge area.  And, that the BLM has identified that general area for OHV travel planning to designate a substantive network of high-value OHV trails.

D36 and a number of its OHV and conservation partners have long opposed various wind energy planning efforts over the last 10-15 years.  However, it seems the administration’s new energy expansion strategy has identified Walker Ridge as a potential wind farm.

OHV Route On The South End Of Walker Ridge

D36 has sent a request to the BLM asking that it be placed on the project’s mailing list and is sent copies of any related documents related to MOUs, agreements, scoping, planning, and project implementation.

Be assured, the D36 LAO will be engaged on this important issue over the next 1-2 years.

D36 GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS LEAD APPOINTED TO BLM RESOURCE ADVISORY COUNCIL

Acting Secretary of the Interior, David Bernhardt, has appointed the AMA District 36 Government Affairs lead to serve on the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Central California Resource Advisory Council (RAC).  Don Amador, a former chairman of the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission, will be representing the interests of OHV enthusiasts who enjoy casual use or participate in permitted motorized events.

This particular RAC advises the BLM on public land issues within the boundaries of the Bakersfield, Bishop, Central Coast, Mother Lode and Ukiah field offices, which comprise the Central California District.

D36 members enjoy participating in competition events or trail riding with family and friends at popular OHV sites within the RAC’s jurisdiction.  Some of those units include the BLM’s Cow Mountain and Knoxville OHV Areas.

The Clear Creek Management Area (currently closed) is also within the RAC’s boundary.  In addition, there are dispersed OHV opportunities in or near Walker Ridge and in the Sierra or Coastal Mountain foothills.

The RAC can make recommendations on programs and policies to increase outdoor recreation opportunities for all Americans including new OHV riding areas and to implement the agency’s regulatory reform proposals which include streamlining the event permit process.

Don Amador states, “I look forward to representing the interests of OHV recreationists who enjoy trail riding or participating in motorcycle competition events.  The RAC will most certainly be reviewing the status of OHV recreation at Clear Creek and other lands (either currently closed or open to OHV) within its jurisdiction.”

“D36 members understand that OHV is a significant contributor to the economy and an important part of the California state-wide recreation opportunity matrix and that OHV recreation is also an important partner when it comes to addressing the growing threat of intense wildfires on both public and private lands.  I look forward to working with other user groups on the RAC in support of access to, and resource management of, lands within the RAC’s project area,” Amador concludes.
