As we all know, motorcycle sound has become an issue that must be addressed.  Loud motorcycles give the non-OHV public a reason to complain and more to the point, a reason for some to call for ousting motorcycles from our already established  riding areas, both on public and private land.

Here is an opportunity, at no cost to you, to get involved with learning how to control sound and receive a certificate that shows you have been trained to do sound testing.  Note that space is limited so call now to get your seat in the training class outlined below.

Understanding and Controlling Vehicular Sound In the Environment – Motorcycle Noise Control

When:
Saturday, February 28, 2015
10 AM – 2 PM Training Class *preregistration is required
1:30 PM – 4 PM Muffler Outreach * no registration required

Where: 
Carnegie SVRA, (Training Class will be at the Sector Office, Outreach and sound testing in the main parking area.)

District 36 in conjunction with Carnegie SVRA

Class Fee:
No fee – Class is sponsored by the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation, Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division.

Topic:
“Measurement of Exhaust Sound Pressure Levels of Motorcycles & Spark Arrester Inspections”. Certified Technical Inspector / Civilian Sound Training Class – Off Highway Vehicles.

 Summary: 
This training class is recognized as the premier educational resource for vehicle sound measurement.

 The class will give attendees the education to perform field sound measurement and spark arrester inspections on motorcycles utilizing recognized testing methods. (Street motorcycles, Off Highway motorcycles, All terrain vehicles, Snow mobiles and Street automobiles will be discussed.)

The training module will help students understand environmental sounds, measurement procedures and sound measurement equipment.

 Students completing the training will be issued a training certificate. For a detailed class description please contact DPS Technical and request the class outline and educational supplement.      

Presenter:
Chris F. Real, CLS – Chris is an internationally recognized authority on motorcycle sound measurement and training.  

 As a special service from DPS Technical, sound meters will be inspected and performance checked. Bring your sound meter if you have one. Please install a new battery in your meter prior to attending the class. Each student will receive a comprehensive educational supplement and a spark arrester inspection tool.

IMPORTANT:
Class seating space is very limited. Seating is limited to 20 Maximum – Pre registration is required!!

Special Note:
District 36 will be hosting a free muffler sound testing and maintenance clinic as part of this event.

This function will be in the main parking area of the Carnegie SVRA. Time 2 PM – 4 PM.

Additional Information:

 The 2015 AMA Motorcycle Competition rule book has a few adjustments pertaining to sound testing. We will be able to give guidance on this subject.
