\u00a0His lovely wife Berta agreed, knowing that the pay was about half of the laser job, but she also knew what a passion Dave had to protect all motorcyclists\u2019 right to ride.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71597\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 302px\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-71597\" src=\"http:\/\/ama-d36.org\/archive\/d36\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/pickett1951-2024.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"302\" height=\"431\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ama-d36.org\/archive\/d36\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/pickett1951-2024.png 505w, https:\/\/ama-d36.org\/archive\/d36\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/pickett1951-2024-210x300.png 210w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 302px) 100vw, 302px\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\"><\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<em>December 1951 &#8211; August 2024<\/em><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Dave\u2019s credentials include serving as District 36 President for 11 years and serving as D36 Legislative Action Officer for decades. \u00a0His calm demeanor and soft voice consistently brought issues to the attention of whoever was making the decisions. \u00a0That included the D36 Board of Directors, the State of California Off Highway Vehicle Recreation Division Commission, the Motorcycle Industry Council, the Bureau of Land Management, the Forest Service, lobbyists in Sacramento, the Governor\u2019s office, California Air Resources Board, California Parks Staff and personnel, and his favorite sponsors-many, many sponsors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">His presentation of a VIP area at Hangtown for the representatives mentioned above, was famous throughout the state as the place to be for the start of the MX Nationals. \u00a0This gave many political dignitaries their very first experience into off road racing! \u00a0Thanks again Dirt Diggers for many years of supporting this endeavor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Dave was always coming up with \u201canother\u201d idea. \u00a0Some were great-some were not so great- but often he really killed it, like the now infamous D36 Night Enduro. \u00a0Dave could not walk ten steps without running into someone who knew him, or knew of him. \u00a0It didn\u2019t matter, they became instant friends and fans. \u00a0Especially sponsors and, the holy grail to Dave, the potential sponsor\u2026. lol.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">There wasn\u2019t a fight that Dave wasn\u2019t up for. \u00a0He would research the subject to death, then pester, cajole, and influence his opinion until most people simply gave in. \u00a0Dave would find little nuggets buried in pages and pages of obscure documents to find things, like the State preparing to deed a section of Prairie City OHV away that was specifically called for OHV use. \u00a0No one would ever find these things but Dave did. \u00a0The State was forced to admit their mistake and the property was ultimately added to Prairie City for OHV use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Dave was above all a devoted husband and family man. \u00a0He loved his home in the woods and to have everyone gather for the holidays.\u00a0 His beloved dogs and whatever eccentric vehicle he was fawning over lately were always shown off. \u00a0From antique motorcycles, off beat street bikes and antique autos, to his latest obsession a Volkswagen Thing. \u00a0I could never understand that choice, but heck, it was odd and hard to get parts for so Dave was all in!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">I think it was Dave\u2019s kind heart that endeared him to us all. \u00a0That was probably the thing that melted away most of the opposition to any of his conversations. \u00a0His wife Berta always kept the \u201chome fires burning\u201d, while supporting Dave in all that he did and accomplished. \u00a0It is hard to imagine a world without Dave, so I\u2019ll just think of Dave as being in another zip code-always there for a word of advice in that soft, gentle voice so soothing to us all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">God Speed Dave Pickett.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jerry Fouts<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So what do you say about a guy that gave up a promising job in the laser industry to represent a motorcycle association in protecting the association\u2019s riders\u2019 right to ride?
