AMA Action Alert LogoCongressional letter aims to prevent E15-related engine damage

Urge your representative to sign before the new deadline, Oct. 28!

Take Action

Members of Congress who have signed to date: Current cosigners (122): Flores, Welch, Goodlatte, Costa, Womack, Babin, Barletta, Barr, Barton, Bilirakis, Michael Bishop, Black, Boustany, Jr., Brady, Bridenstine, Mo Brooks, Burgess, Byrne, Buddy Carter, John Carter, Chabot, Coffman, Cole, Chris Collins, Doug Collins, Comstock, Crawford, Crenshaw, Cuellar, Culberson, Curbelo, DeFazio, Dent, Diaz-Balart, Jeff Duncan, John Duncan, Ellmers, Farenthold, Fincher, Fleischmann, Fleming, Foxx, Frankel, Franks, Frelinghuysen, Garrett, Chris Gibson, Gosar, Granger, Graves, Gene Green, Griffith, Hanna, Harper, Harris, Heck, Hensarling, Hice, Hill, Holding, Hudson, Hunter, Hurt, Jolly, Jones, Jordan, Kelly, Lamborn, Lance, Long, Loudermilk, MacArthur, Marchant, Massie, McClintock, McKinley, Meehan, Mica, Mulvaney, Tim Murphy, Neugebauer, Newhouse, Nugent, Olson, Palazzo, Palmer, Pearce, Perry, Pingree, Pittenger, Poe, Pompeo, Posey, Rice, Richmond, Roe, Rohrabacher, Ross, Rothfus, Rouzer, Russell, Austin Scott, Sensenbrenner, Jr., Sessions, Simpson, Lamar Smith, Stewart, Thornberry, Valadao, Veasey, Walberg, Mimi Walters, Weber, Wenstrup, Westerman, Williams, Joe Wilson, Woodall, Yoho, Don Young, Zinke

U.S. Reps. Bill Flores (R-Texas), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), Jim Costa (D-Calif.) and Steve Womack (R-Ark.) are taking the lead by sending a letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to discourage it from breaching the Renewable Fuel Standard blend wall. The blend wall is the point at which no more ethanol can be blended without creating higher-ethanol blends, such as E15 and above.

The bipartisan letter comes in response to the EPA’s proposed Renewable Volume Obligations rule for 2014, 2015 and 2016 and is scheduled to arrive before the RVOs are finalized on Nov. 30. The EPA proposal would increase the amount of ethanol from all sources in the nation’s fuel supply to 17.4 billion gallons in 2016, up from 15.93 billion gallons in 2014.

Those increases would come despite the EPA’s acknowledgement that the current market cannot absorb these higher ethanol production rates. The practical effect of the EPA’s action is that ethanol production will exceed the “blend wall.” That means more E15 and less E10 on future  markets. More E15 will inevitably lead to inadvertent misfueling, which can damage motorcycle and all-terrain-vehicle engines. Moreover, the use of E15 may void the manufacturer’s warranty.

The EPA’s proposed rule does not consider the concerns of motorcyclists and ATV owners, despite the agency’s knowing that none of the estimated 22 million motorcycles and ATVs in use in the United States is approved to use blends with more than 10 percent ethanol (E10).

This letter would help protect millions of motorcycle and ATV vehicles and the riders who depend on their safe operation.

The new deadline for signatures is Wednesday, Oct. 28! Act today to ensure your representative signs the Flores/Welch/Goodlatte/Costa/Womack letter.

To urge your representative to sign on to the bipartisan letter, just follow the “Take Action” option, which will send a prewritten email directly to your lawmaker demanding access to safe fuel.

Now more than ever, it is crucial that you and your riding friends become members of the AMA to help protect our riding freedoms. More members mean more clout against the opponents of motorcycling. That support will help fight for your rights – on the road, trail, racetrack, and in the halls of government. If you are a motorcycle rider, join the AMA at AmericanMotorcyclist.com/membership/join.

Fire Restrictions Lifted On The Stanislaus National Forest

We received the below Forest Service News Release.  But please keep in mind that is’t still dry out there.  Be sure to get a fire permit and follow safety procedures!
Dave Pickett, D36 LAO

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sonora, Calif. Oct. 08, 2015…Due to cooler, wetter weather and predictions of stable or cooling conditions into the future, fire restrictions on the Stanislaus National Forest (NF) are being lifted effective midnight tonight.

This will allow the public to build campfires outside of established administrative sites within the Forest for the purpose of warming; however, visitors are reminded there is still a CAL FIRE, statewide ban on debris burning in effect.

“The longer nights and shorter days have lowered our fire danger indices,” said Deputy Forest Fire Management Officer, Robert Laeng. “Though fire restrictions are being lifted, overall Forest conditions are still dry and Forest visitors should continue to be vigilant with fire safety.”

Unfortunately, Forest personnel continue to find unattended campfires which require prevention action. Though natural causes account for over 50 percent of wildfires on the Stanislaus NF, human caused wildfire is also a major source. For more information on preventing unwanted wildfire, please visit the One Less Spark Campaign page.

Fire permits, along with fire safety information can be obtained at no charge to the public at any Forest Service Visitor Information Office. For more Forest information, visit: http://www.fs.usda.gov/stanislaus.

To speak with a Visitor Information Specialist, please call: Stanislaus Supervisor’s Office at 209-532-3671; Calaveras Ranger District (RD) at 209-795-1381; Groveland RD at 209-962-7825; Mi-Wok RD at 209-586-3234; or Summit RD at 209-965-3434.

Wilseyville HS D36 Newsletter Correction

There has been some confusion and concern regarding the upcoming Wilseyville Hare Scrambles on Oct. 31 and Nov 1, 2015.

If you downloaded and/or read the District 36 Newsletter that was posted on October 1st there was a mistake on page 28 in the Meet Schedule for the Willseyville Hare Scrambles that showed that Adults running on Saturday and youth on Sunday and this is incorrect.   Youth will be racing on Saturday, Oct 31 and Adults will be racing on Sunday Nov 1.  The posted Wilseyville Flyer and the Meet schedule on the District 36 website has the correct information.   You may also visit www.wilseyvillehs.com for information on this meet.

Note:  The posted newsletter has been corrected on October 7th and the current posted version is correct

For those concerned about the recent Butte fire, the fire did not affect the town of Wilseyville, so the race is still on!

Date:           Oct 31 – Nov 1, 2015
Place:          Wilseyville, CA  (please see flyer for detailed directions)
Time:          Saturday 8:00 am  /  Sunday 8:00 am
