Support District 36 Riders Going To The ISDE

Please Consider Donating To The “District 36 International Six Days of Enduro Support Fund”

This support fund was created several years ago and each year the money collected from donations is evenly distributed to District 36 Riders that attend and compete in the ISDE on club teams.  This is an expensive endeavor for these competitors and they need our help.  They have raced in the qualifiers to earn their selection to the teams representing the USA and they do this all at their own expense.

The ISDE, considered the most prestigious off-road motorcycle event in the world, is also the world’s largest annual off-road motorcycle competition that pits riders from several nations for top honors.  It takes man and machine to the limits on some of the world’s toughest terrain and typically covers over 1000 miles during the six days.

Remember, these District 36 riders are not only representing the United States, they are also representing District 36.

For more information and to donate if you can, please visit our ISDE Support Fund page.

Godspeed, Sue Sumrall

It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform our members and friends that our Chaplain Fred Sumrall’s wife, Sue, passed unexpectedly last Sunday. Fred and Sue have been such an important part of the District and our lives, that Sue will be greatly missed. Fred and Sue were pretty much inseparable, as most of us at the races would attest; Sue quietly supporting and sharing the racing and riding experience with all she encountered and always smiling while offering her help. Sue was also very involved with her local community in Forrest Hill and at her and Fred’s Church, which I have had the distinct pleasure of attending.

Elizabeth Lampman asked me to share with you that there will be a service most probably in Forrest Hill sometime next week. There will also be some kind of a District memorial later as things sort themselves out. As you can imagine, Fred is overwhelmed at this time and we ask that you respect his privacy for now. As soon as we at the District receive more details from the family, we will most certainly share them with you.

Please keep Fred and the Sumrall family and extended family in your thoughts and prayers while wishing Sue Godspeed.

CODE RED ACTION ALERT – Funding For Recreational Trails On Senate Chopping Block!

BRC_RTP_Banner_A

FUNDING FOR RECREATIONAL TRAILS ON SENATE CHOPPING BLOCK!
Send letter today in support of the Recreational Trails Program.

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber

The full Senate is gearing up to vote on its version of a transportation bill. U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has introduced an amendment to H.R. 22, the DRIVE Act, which would eliminate the Transportation Alternatives Program.

This proposal would eliminate all funding for the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) because the RTP derives its funding from the Transportation Alternatives Program. RTP is an important funding source for the management of both motorized and non-motorized trail opportunities throughout the country.

As many of you know, BRC and many others worked hard in the early 1990s for the creation by Congress of the Recreational Trails Program. Trail users need to champion RTP!

BRC is joining with the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) in issuing a CODE RED partner alert. Please go to the AMA alert HERE and petition Congress to continue its support for recreational trails.

Thanks,

Don Amador

OHV Rider Missing In Georgetown

We have just received a report of a OHV Rider missing on the Georgetown Divide.  Ed Cavanaugh, who has a cabin on Darling ridge went up there last Thursday or Friday to do some riding over the weekend.  Friends couldn’t reach him this week and a check of his cabin by the Sheriffs’ office revealed that his truck was there, the cabin locked and the lights on but his 2006 Yamaha YZ250 was not there.

It’s not typical of Mr. Cavanaugh to take off for a period of time without letting someone know and all his camping gear is still at his cabin.

A  helicopter search and ground search has been started by the Sheriffs office  today and they are asking anyone that may be going riding up there today or this weekend to be on the look out, both on the trails and the surrounding areas for anything unusual.  The search has started in the Trail 7 area but it’s possible he could be anywhere in the trail system.

Ed Cavanaugh is approximate 45 years old, 5′ 11″ tall, 160 lbs., bald head with a moustache.  Although reported to be in good health, Ed is a diabetic.

If you have any information that may help please contact the Georgetown Ranger Station at 530 333-4312

Dominic Colindres, District 36 Black Plate 1, Earns National Racing Number

Dominic Colindres, a District 36 Dirt Track racer holding the coveted Black Plate 1, reached a milestone that puts him into an elite group of riders.

Last week at the Hagerstown Half Mile Dominic rode the new Yamaha FZ-07 bike built by Babe DeMay, long time racer/tuner.  This was his first time on this bike and his chance to get a “feel for it”.  Unfortunately the race was called due to rain after qualifying sessions, so with limited seat time he moved on to the next race.

Last Sunday at the Lima Ohio Fairgrounds he raced the DeMay Yamaha for only the second time and gained a place in the main event.  Dominic fought his way through the qualifying sessions and went on to the heat races, gaining his entry in “The Show” by placing third in the final Semi race.  This is quite an accomplishment considering this track is one of the most technical riding surfaces in the series.  This is a pea gravel cushion track that ruts up and is nothing like the tracks we have here in Northern California.

Dominic has gained his experience riding the Blue Groove at the Lodi Cycle Bowl, competing in Short Tack and TT events.  He could also be found out at the local riding areas on a regular basis honing his skills.

Dominic

Dominic’s talent started showing at an early age as he came up through the D36 program moving quickly from a novice to an expert.  This talent was recognized by Frankie Morris, a long time flat track enthusiast.  Frankie built a number of the CRF450 machines putting Dominic on top quality equipment. Here is a special Thank You to Frank for your perseverance and help.

Dominic also has great support from his family.  Dominic’s father, Rick, spent a lot of time working and supporting him.  Rick’s knowledge comes from the years he spent as an AMA road racer and participant in all types of off road riding.  His mother, Lorraine, is often times at the track also supporting and worrying herself sick as she watches Dominic perform.

Dominic has now earned his National Number and helped Yamaha enter the frey.

Congratulations, Dominic!
