New Date For Wilseyville HS

headerIn an effort to reduce the dust at this year’s Wilseyville Hare Scrambles, the date has been changed from OCT 15/16 to NOV 19/20, 2016.  The Black Oak Hare Scrambles, which was originally scheduled to run on NOV 19/20 has been moved to a new location and will take place on OCT 15/16 (more on this in the coming weeks).

Please update your racing calendars accordingly as the new November date of the Wilseyville Hare Scrambles should be as great an event as last year, but without the dust!   Watch for a new flyer to be posted next week.

Valley Climbers MC Announces New Event Name

Valley Climbers MC  / District 36 Breaking News Release
Friday, August 19, 2016
Napa, CA

The Valley Climbers Motorcycle Club, promoters of the WFO Enduro (Final Round #6 of the District 36 Northern California Championship Enduro Series / Final Round #8 of the Western Checkpoint Enduro Championship), have announced a re-branding of their Enduro Event name for the upcoming 2016 Enduro event scheduled for Sunday, November 13, 2016 near Stonyford, CA in the USFS Grindstone Ranger District.

In partnership with the USFS Mendocino National Forest OHV Management staff, the Valley Climbers have agreed to retire our original legacy “WFO Enduro” event name.  For over 25 years, the WFO Enduro has been a benchmark for quality, well managed championship quality Enduro events.  Effective immediately, the “WFO Enduro” will now be known as the “Steam Donkey Enduro”.

Many long time OHV riders of the Stonyford OHV area will recognize and understand the historical significance of the Steam Donkey name, which makes reference to a specific, long abandoned 1800’s era steam power unit used by loggers in the area before the invention of the internal combustion engine.  If you haven’t yet seen the abandoned steam donkey at Stonyford, ask any Valley Climbers member and we will be happy to guide you to its location.

The 2016 Steam Donkey Enduro will be a Brand Q type Enduro.

Thanks to all our supporters, and we look forward to seeing you Enduro riders at the Steam Donkey Enduro on Sunday, November 13, 2016.

State Parks Still After OHV Division

SPcracksOHV

Save California OHV Recreation!

The California State Parks Transformation Team’s recommendations are finally out, and it doesn’t look good for the future of motorized off-highway vehicle recreation.

The California OHV Division of State Parks runs the popular State Vehicle Recreation Areas and provides critical grant funding to riding areas on other public lands statewide. These lands include those under the control of the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, where the vast majority of OHV recreation takes place.

Under the new proposal, the funds historically dedicated to the OHV program could now be comingled and even redirected to non-OHV facilities and uses.

Opponents of OHV recreation have long coveted the program’s budget, funded exclusively with your registration, park entry fees and fuel taxes. This latest attempt to tap OHV program funds is serious and demands an immediate and forceful response from the OHV community if it is going to be stopped.

All riders, their friends, families and everyone else who cares about the future of this incredibly important program must act immediately. Visit www.savecaliforniaohv.org today. There you can learn more about the threat and also send a message to decision makers.

Equally important, a second public meeting in Ontario, Calif. has just been announced.

Please plan to attend. And get there early. Space may be limited!

The meeting is scheduled for 6-9 p.m., Aug. 11 at the Double Tree Hotel by Hilton Ontario Airport, 222 N. Vineyard Avenue, Ontario, Calif.

The meeting agenda may be reviewed here.

It is critical that riders and their families attend this meeting. California State Parks must hear from all of you. Pease be prepared to share personal stories about what OHV recreation means to you, your family and the riding community.

Opponents of OHV recreation will be there, and we need your voice to be heard!

Now more than ever, it is crucial that you and your riding friends become members of the AMA to help us protect our riding freedoms. More members mean more clout against the opponents of motorcycling, and your support will help the AMA fight for your rights – on the road, trail, racetrack, and in the halls of government.

To join, go to http://americanmotorcyclist.com/For-Members/Join-The-AMA. To encourage your friends to join, tell them about the many AMA benefits you appreciate and forward the link to them.

Blue Mountain Hare Scrambles – New Venue!

Cross Country Promotions, promoter of the Oasis HS has announced that the fall Oasis Hare Scrambles is moving to Wilseyville.  So subsequently because it will not be held at the Oasis MX property, CCP has changed the name of the meet to “Blue Mountain Hare Scrambles”.

Because this meet will be located at Wilesyville, the move from Oasis and its scrub brush décor to the forest is a welcome one!

The flyer is yet to be published but we’re told it will be out soon.   We’ve also been advised to report  that parking may be a little tight and while the property owner is opening up more area to park, for now it’s highly recommended that for us that can, we all car-pool to be sure there is room for everyone that is expected to take advantage of this new area.

Mark your calendar for November 12-13 and also note that Adults will run on Saturday and Youth on Sunday!

Stay tuned for more information as we get it.

California OHV Motor Vehicle Division Needs Everyone to Step Up And Be Heard!

Carnegie-Forever-Header

SATURDAY 16, JULY 2016

The END of the California OHV Division as we know it?

The Chapter in the Public Resources Code that created the Division of OHMVR as a separate Division within the California Parks and Recreation Department has a sunset clause that eliminates the Division if the legislature does not reauthorize it before January 1st 2018.  It appears that our opponents have taken this opportunity to organize hostile political forces in Sacramento to eliminate the CA Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division (OHMVRD).
The state parks transformation team is recommending that OHMVD be moved back into the Offices of the Department of Parks and Recreation. This would eliminate the District of Off Highway Motor Vehicles as a separate unit of State Parks and Recreation which includes OHV-related grant funding to the Forest Service, BLM, counties, local sheriffs’ departments, non-profit trail and conservation groups.
Under this proposal the dedicated OHV funds raised from off road riders would be comingled and likely directed to non-OHV facilities and uses. These funds consist of our registration fees, entry fees and fuel taxes used in our off-road vehicles. Our enemies have long coveted our OHV funds for non-OHV use. The program has been reauthorized in the past but now they are using this provision to eliminate the program and take our OHV Trust Funds for their own use.
Don Amador who is a tireless OHMV advocate says this about the proposal:
“Based on what I know today, I believe the Transformation Team’s proposal has nothing to do with improving government efficiency.   Rather, it is a crass political maneuver to eviscerate the OHV program and lay the groundwork for permanently sunsetting the program on January 1, 2018.”
“The good news in the dark aforementioned potential future of OHV is that there are millions of motorized recreationists who can speak up as a strong political force against the Transformation Team’s plan”.
“Your loud voice was heard 20 years ago to save the CA OHV program and now government officials in Sacramento need to hear from you once again!”
http://thegeneralsrecreationden.blogspot.com/
What can we do specifically?
There will be an open house to allow stakeholders to comment on this proposal on Tuesday July 19, 2016 in the Resources Building Auditorium at 1496 9th Street, Sacramento, CA 945814. Stakeholders include OHV riders and adjacent land owners. Many of the conservationists who are opposed to OHV recreation in California are not stake holders.
The open house will provide a forum for the public to learn about this Organizational Structure Opportunities project from the Department, and for the Department to hear from the stakeholders. The members of the OHMV Commission have been invited to attend. Our opponents will be there and we need to do everything possible to make sure our voices are heard.
We also need to send letters to the committee, our representatives and Secretary Laird. See: http://www.savecaliforniaohv.org/
We need to be heard. This is too important to ignore if you love to ride off highway motor vehicles and ride in California. The future of off-highway recreation in California is up to you. Go to these sites and learn all you can about this proposal and how it will affect our right to ride. Then go to the meeting if you can and write letters to the people who are in charge. We have no time to lose!
