Hangtown National Motocross Volunteers Wanted

Many have worked at Hangtown over the years and know the routine for volunteering, however this year the event will look a little bit different.  Amateur Day will take place May 24th and 25th (Saturday & Sunday) with the Pro Days the following weekend on May 30th and 31st (Friday & Saturday-pro Race).

To Sign up to as a worker there are TWO separate forms this year:

One is for the Amateur Days, which are May 24th and May 25th where we will need about 25 flaggers for the amateur weekend.  The Food crew won’t be working on the Amateur Weekend and I don’t believe SAR is needed for that weekend either.

The other form is for the Pro Day where we will need full crews for the Hangtown Motocross Classic, May 30 and May 31.  We will need around 45 flaggers -so if you know people who are able bodied, have health insurance and are over 18, please send them my way, via hangtownworker@gmail.com or share these forms with them (links below). We will provide workers with lunch both Amateur days as well as both days of the Pro racing. We will need proof of Health Insurance for all workers.

Again…Please note THERE ARE TWO FORMS. One for Hangtown Pro Days and one for Hangtown Amateur Days and if working both weekends Both Forms must be filled out and sent in.  Tickets, bands and camping passes are separate for each weekend event.  Warren Minster is the Inside Track Director and will be working with you all as well as the series Flagger Coordinator.  For Volunteers I will get all the meeting information out to you at a later date when it is all finalized.  As always, we will have the ‘Wheels On The Ground’ crew as well.  If you are any of the other crews, please reach out to the person listed on the form(s) for permission.

The forms are PDF’s and are fillable. Instructions:

  • Download the form(s) you need to submit and save them
  • Fill them out and if you can, electronically sign them, save the file(s) and email them to hangtownworker@gmail.com
  • OR print them out, sign them, scan them back in and email them to the above address.
  • OR, after printing them, filling them out and signing them, snail mail them to:

DOGE SHOULD SUPPORT ON-THE-GROUND PUBLIC SERVICE

As somebody who has worked with federal land agencies over the course of my 35-year trail stewardship, recreation, and multiple-use management advocacy career, I have seen both DEM and GOP Administrations issue new executive orders, policy directives, and reform proposals that could be viewed as disruptive to the status quo.

I have found a prudent course for those in my profession is to study the proposals for intended and unintended consequences, consult with trusted colleagues, develop action items and solutions, and then share that info with decision-makers and key stakeholders.

First, let me share that on a personal basis, I am concerned and acutely aware about the fiscal and emotional impacts the DOGE cuts will have on recent Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and National Park Service hires including the affect it could or will have on recreation programs and resource management projects.  I also know that many in my career agency network are deeply troubled and discouraged and that reality weighs on me 24/7.

However, I also know that the current regulatory industrial complex that started in the mid 1970s with the creation of numerous environmental agencies, related congressional actions, and the Equal Access to Justice Act (EAJA) that was created to allow veterans and others to challenge adverse government actions and recoup legal fees, a well-intentioned cause for sure.  Unfortunately, it became an abused method for special interest activist groups to fund an endless parade of lawsuits against federal land management agencies.

I have seen first-hand how recreation and forest health projects have been stalled due to lack of funding since those EAJA awards are deducted from an agency’s individual budgets.  It’s tough to pay for a trail crew, repair a blown out road, replace toilet paper in an SST, or purchase gas for an agency vehicle to ferry staff to a fuel project when the account balance is zero.

In 1990, when I started on my land-use journey, the Forest Service annual budget was $921 million dollars. Today, the annual budget is about $9.3 billion dollars that is largely gobbled up by high level career siloed staff tasked with mitigating adverse impacts to the agency by the regulatory and legal industrial complex that often leaves nothing but fiscal crumbs to support recreation and resource management efforts.

Be assured that I will continue to advocate for budgetary support of important staff work at the local level that provides important on-the-ground public services including access to high quality recreation opportunities, forest health projects, pre and post-wildfire mitigation, and natural and cultural resource conservation practices.

Minor & Adult Release Of Liability To Race

All District 36 Meets / Events are sanctioned through he American Motorcyclist Association, aka: AMA and as such all participants must sign a release form at each meet or have an AMA Annual Release for adults and an Annual Minor Release for each youth on file with the AMA.  These Annual Releases are acquired by signing up on the AMA website (link below)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the AMA:
All youth participants at events must have an annual minor release form on file with the AMA OR have both parents or sole custody adult in attendance to participate.
If parent/legal guardian is not in attendance, the youth participant must have an annual release on file and the representative of the parents must have a guardianship signed by both parents and notarized.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you don’t get an adult Annual Release, at each race there is an adult release form with lines for multiple signatures.  For youth, as stated by the AMA, both parents or a legal Sole Custody Adult must be present at the race.  If both parents can’t attend, a youth release form signed and notarized is require.  This form can be downloaded for signatures and notarized to bring to the meet.

Access to the annual Adult and Minor release  forms at: https://americanmotorcyclist.com/racing/racing-resources/annual-release/

Access to the paper minor release form (download, print, sign, notarize and present at each meet): https://americanmotorcyclist.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/2020-Minor-Release.pdf

It’s strongly recommended to sign up for the AMA Annual Release and a card that must be presented at each competition meet will be sent to you.  In some cases a club/promoter may still require each entrant to sign the release forms at the meet and having a Youth Annual Release card means you won’t have to have a notarized  youth release  form with you.  Note that all Annual Releases are valid for the the calendar year acquired and must be renewed each year.

2025 District 36 Operations Manual Published

The 2025 District 36 Operations Manual (AKA: Rulebook) has been published.  This manual contains all the revised and/or new rules added for 2025 as well as existing rules, all that govern competition in District 36 Sanctioned Meets.

The Manual is now published in a full page format meaning each page is not two columns.  This makes it easier to read on your phone if you turn it to the “horizontal” position.

This valuable information is highly recommended for racers to review and learn the rules that pertain to your specific Discipline(s).   Knowing the rules can make a difference in winning or losing a podium position and also affect advancement points that goes with how well a racer places.  Knowing the rules you may also avoid penalties for rule infractions.

Keep in mind that the rules contained in the District 36 Operations Manual are a SUPPLEMENTAL set of rules to the AMA rules and are approved by the AMA.  Each Meet in District 36 is sanctioned by the AMA, a requirement of District 36 and it is also recommended that you review the AMA rules for your specific Discipline(s).

Note that each Discipline has their own more specific rules generated by each Steward and approved by the District 36 Board of Directors.

You can find links to the District 36 Operations Manual, the Discipline specific Supplemental rules and the AMA Racing Rulebook here>  Competition Rules

Racing a motorcycle is one of the most exciting sports we participate in and the rules make the playing field level for all!

Looking For The 2024 Points and Results?

The End of the Year Change-Over on the District 36 Website from 2024 to 2025 has resulted in some link changing and a few added.  To this, all the dicipline links have been changed to the 2025 schedule.   To accommodate our riders and racers looking for last years standings and race results a link to the 2024 pages has been added where all the race results and points for 2024 can still be found.

Please note that the “2024 points and Results” link takes you to the D36 archives page where links are located for each dicipline.

See How……
