Save California OHV Recreation!

The California State Parks Transformation Team’s recommendations are finally out, and it doesn’t look good for the future of motorized off-highway vehicle recreation.

The California OHV Division of State Parks runs the popular State Vehicle Recreation Areas and provides critical grant funding to riding areas on other public lands statewide. These lands include those under the control of the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, where the vast majority of OHV recreation takes place.

Under the new proposal, the funds historically dedicated to the OHV program could now be comingled and even redirected to non-OHV facilities and uses.

Opponents of OHV recreation have long coveted the program’s budget, funded exclusively with your registration, park entry fees and fuel taxes. This latest attempt to tap OHV program funds is serious and demands an immediate and forceful response from the OHV community if it is going to be stopped.

All riders, their friends, families and everyone else who cares about the future of this incredibly important program must act immediately. Visit www.savecaliforniaohv.org today. There you can learn more about the threat and also send a message to decision makers.

Equally important, a second public meeting in Ontario, Calif. has just been announced.

Please plan to attend. And get there early. Space may be limited!

The meeting is scheduled for 6-9 p.m., Aug. 11 at the Double Tree Hotel by Hilton Ontario Airport, 222 N. Vineyard Avenue, Ontario, Calif.

It is critical that riders and their families attend this meeting. California State Parks must hear from all of you. Pease be prepared to share personal stories about what OHV recreation means to you, your family and the riding community.

Cross Country Promotions, promoter of the Oasis HS has announced that the fall Oasis Hare Scrambles is moving to Wilseyville.  So subsequently because it will not be held at the Oasis MX property, CCP has changed the name of the meet to “Blue Mountain Hare Scrambles”.

Because this meet will be located at Wilesyville, the move from Oasis and its scrub brush décor to the forest is a welcome one!

The flyer is yet to be published but we’re told it will be out soon.   We’ve also been advised to report  that parking may be a little tight and while the property owner is opening up more area to park, for now it’s highly recommended that for us that can, we all car-pool to be sure there is room for everyone that is expected to take advantage of this new area.

Mark your calendar for November 12-13 and also note that Adults will run on Saturday and Youth on Sunday!

The END of the California OHV Division as we know it?

The Timekeepers Motorcycle Club is very pleased to announce that their 2016 Wild Piglet Youth/Family Enduro, Round 1 of the 2016 District 36 – SRT Championship Youth/Family Enduro Series, has been rescheduled!  Due to a rain-out on the original date, the Timekeepers, working with the staff at Hollister Hills SVRA have secured a new date in September to run this very popular Family Enduro.

Special Note To Those That Pre-Entered In The Spring……If you still plan on riding this enduro you will need to re-enter by sending in a completed entry form and check payment.  This is due to the fact that the checks you sent in originally are no longer valid after six months and have already been destroyed by the club.

The Stewards Of the Sierra National Forest are hosting their 7th annual Dual Sport & Adventure rides this weekend.  This run is a combination fund raiser and membership drive for this organization dedicated to keeping your trails and public access open in the Sierra National Forest for all to use and enjoy.

There will be three days (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) of big adventure bike routes, approximately 500 miles if you go the distance and two days (Saturday & Sunday) of Dual Sport routes, approximately 220 miles with optional “hard way” splits for the more experienced riders.  

There is a 200 rider limit so check with them (see flyer for contact info) before you Register On-Line!

Many of you know that the State has been taking $10 Million from OHV Fuel Tax Revenues YOU pay as an “Intercept” before it reaches the OHV Trust Fund.  D36 and other OHV organizations have been fighting this, as this is just a pure TAKE of your OHV money that was intended to go to our OHV Program.

This action is from Assembly Bill 2175 (Jones):

In an Assembly Vote of 80-0, this first step has passed to STOP this TAKE for good!
Next step is to Transportation Committee, then on to the Senate.
Hopefully, the Senate will agree with the Assembly as this was a bi-partisan vote.

D36 will keep you informed, and will advise how you can help on this when needed.

The 2016 Dirt Track season is fully underway with the first race held at Lodi Cycle Bowl April 23^rd already in the books.  Unfortunately the second race, round 2 was rained out but it got a whole lot better just this past weekend when Lodi Motorcycle Club and Stockton Motorcycle Club held a double header at the Lodi Cycle Bowl with rounds 2 & 3 of the District 36 Championship Dirt Track Series.  Saturday night’s race had a tremendous turnout of 180 racers that made for a whole lot of exciting racing for the evening.   With 90 racers taking turns on the starting grid in their respective classes on Sunday the racing was just as intense both for the competitors and spectators as well.

The track worked in nicely and the main events were entertaining and exciting to say the least.   Watching the experts kept us on the edge of our seats for the entire race.  The competition was strong with Open A, Michael Inderbitzen and Damon Coca dueling for the checkered flag.  Beau Thompson really showed well with some great racing and in the end Michael took the lead in the final laps to win the race.

As a bonus, on Saturday night we were treated with an exhibition race of gas powered carts.  The drivers really put on a show with these carts running laps in the 14 second range.   There was a lot of Indications that these little speedsters will be coming back for two or three of the upcoming events, so if you missed them this time stay tuned for the next opportunity.

This coming Friday, May 20^th the Lodi Motorcycle Club is hosting their annual “Night Before The Mile”.  This is a “Don’t miss” event for local Dirt Track Racing with the Pro riders from the GNC coming to compete as a warm up for the Sacramento Mile to be held the next day.  The Pro’s will be there to compete and test the strength of their competitors in the next day’s mile race.  But don’t think they won’t be racing hard, they’re also competing for a $10,000 purse!

In addition to the Pro’s, racing will include some select classes from the amateur competitors.  These racers are serious about their sport and most are working towards turning Pro.

A special thank you goes out to the members of the Lodi MC Club and the Stockton MC Club for their hard work involved in putting on an exciting two days of racing!
