District 36 Memberships & Renewal

Hello everyone!

With our 2020 racing seasons being so “out of whack” because of Covid-19, there are many of you (hundreds) who have let your D36 memberships fall into ‘expired’ status since last winter.

With racing resuming this fall, even if on a limited basis, when renewing your memberships, please be aware that your renewal might be coming in at the same time that hundreds of other people typically renew their memberships during the fall season. This may create a heavier workload of membership applications that need to be processed. Please consider renewing now, instead of waiting until later.

For those of you who received renewal notices back prior to June/July of this summer, please note that the self-enclosed envelope with the PO Box 292897, Sacramento address is no longer a valid address. Please do not use that envelope to mail in your renewal, as the USPS forwarding service is extremely slow and quite often, the forwarded mail never does arrive at the new address. The correct mailing address for D36 Memberships is: PO Box 2076, Rocklin, CA, 95677.

Please consider renewing your memberships online, instead of by mail – that will help get your application processed more quickly and with that, for now, you will receive an emailed receipt from PayPal that verifies your membership has been renewed and is current. (If you renew by mail, you don’t get a receipt for proof that you’ve renewed to take to the races with you.)

Another item to be aware of is that if your membership has been expired longer than one full year, you may have lost your last D36 membership number. Expired membership numbers do get released (approx. every 18-22 months) and there are no guarantees that a former membership number can be reassigned to you when you renew an old, long-enough-expired membership. (Membership numbers cannot be researched, promised or assigned prior to a paid membership application being submitted.) If your membership has only been expired for a couple of months to 12-14 months, your membership number is still linked to your name and you will still have that number upon renewal. (Please only check to verify your membership number after you’ve submitted a renewal for a membership that was expired longer than 12-14 months.)

For more information about D36 memberships, please go to www.ama-d36.org/d36/membership.

Good news! Soon, we will be upgrading to a new membership system that will allow for digital membership ‘cards’, as well as several other modern membership and race related options for all of our members, clubs, promoters and D36 officials! Please be patient as we work to transition all the “old” to the “new” – this will be quite the venture for all of us!

We look forward to seeing you again at the races!

Championship Enduro Series & Family Enduro Series Cancelled for 2020!

The 2020 AMA District 36 Championship Enduro and Family Enduro series has been officially cancelled. Multiply event cancellations due to the COVID Pandemic have left only one meet to date that ran the first part of the year.  There are still a few left on the schedule as a wait-and-see but not really enough to create a fair series.

Although there will be no championship points tallied, riders will earn advancement points for the Wild Horse that ran in March and also for any Enduros that may still get to run this fall.

The Enduro and Family Enduro Series’ both have experienced a rough last few years due to fires and odd permit requirements, so please do support the events that might still happen and be sure to plan on coming out for the 2021 Enduro series!

Region 5 Announces Closures and Restrictions on use of National Forests’ in California

Forest Service Temporarily Closes Southern California National Forests, Adds Prohibitions in Others

Contact(s): Jonathan Groveman, (707) 562-8995

VALLEJO, Calif., September 7, 2020—Most of California remains under the threat of unprecedented and dangerous fire conditions with a combination of extreme heat, significant wind events, dry conditions, and firefighting resources that are stretched to the limit. Due to these conditions, the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is announcing the following temporary closures and fire restrictions to provide for public safety and reduce the potential for human caused fire starts. They will go into effect at 5:00 pm Pacific Standard Time on Monday, September 7, 2020, and will be re-evaluated daily as conditions change.

  1. Closure of the following National Forests: Stanislaus National Forest, Sierra National Forest, Sequoia National Forest, Inyo National Forest, Los Padres National Forest, Angeles National Forest, San Bernardino National Forest, and Cleveland National Forest.
  2. Prohibition of the use of any ignition source on all National Forest System lands (campfires, gas stoves, etc.) throughout California.
  3. Closure of all developed campgrounds and day-use sites on National Forests in California.

“The wildfire situation throughout California is dangerous and must be taken seriously. Existing fires are displaying extreme fire behavior, new fire starts are likely, weather conditions are worsening, and we simply do not have enough resources to fully fight and contain every fire,” said Randy Moore, Regional Forester for the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region. “We are bringing every resource to bear nationally and internationally to fight these fires, but until conditions improve, and we are confident that National Forest visitors can recreate safely, the priority is always to protect the public and our firefighters. With these extreme conditions, these temporary actions will help us do both.”

An example of extreme fire behavior is the Creek Fire on the Sierra National Forest which began on Friday Sep. 4th and grew rapidly on Saturday, Sep. 5th. The fire made a 15-mile run in a single day and burned 36,000 acres, prompting evacuations and life saving measures. The California National Guard evacuated at least 200 people from Wagner Mammoth Pool Campground and assessed them for medical needs.

The Forest Service thanks our partners and the public for their cooperation and understanding of this monumental fire threat. It is critical that all Californians and national forest visitors follow these important closures and restrictions for their own safety and the safety of our firefighters.

The Forest Service manages 18 National Forests in the Pacific Southwest Region, which encompasses over 20 million acres across California, and assists forest landowners in California, Hawaii and the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands. National forests supply 50 percent of the water in California and form the watershed of most major aqueducts and more than 2,400 reservoirs throughout the state.
