Region 5 Announces Closures and Restrictions on use of National Forests’ in California

Forest Service Temporarily Closes Southern California National Forests, Adds Prohibitions in Others

Contact(s): Jonathan Groveman, (707) 562-8995

VALLEJO, Calif., September 7, 2020—Most of California remains under the threat of unprecedented and dangerous fire conditions with a combination of extreme heat, significant wind events, dry conditions, and firefighting resources that are stretched to the limit. Due to these conditions, the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is announcing the following temporary closures and fire restrictions to provide for public safety and reduce the potential for human caused fire starts. They will go into effect at 5:00 pm Pacific Standard Time on Monday, September 7, 2020, and will be re-evaluated daily as conditions change.

  1. Closure of the following National Forests: Stanislaus National Forest, Sierra National Forest, Sequoia National Forest, Inyo National Forest, Los Padres National Forest, Angeles National Forest, San Bernardino National Forest, and Cleveland National Forest.
  2. Prohibition of the use of any ignition source on all National Forest System lands (campfires, gas stoves, etc.) throughout California.
  3. Closure of all developed campgrounds and day-use sites on National Forests in California.

“The wildfire situation throughout California is dangerous and must be taken seriously. Existing fires are displaying extreme fire behavior, new fire starts are likely, weather conditions are worsening, and we simply do not have enough resources to fully fight and contain every fire,” said Randy Moore, Regional Forester for the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region. “We are bringing every resource to bear nationally and internationally to fight these fires, but until conditions improve, and we are confident that National Forest visitors can recreate safely, the priority is always to protect the public and our firefighters. With these extreme conditions, these temporary actions will help us do both.”

An example of extreme fire behavior is the Creek Fire on the Sierra National Forest which began on Friday Sep. 4th and grew rapidly on Saturday, Sep. 5th. The fire made a 15-mile run in a single day and burned 36,000 acres, prompting evacuations and life saving measures. The California National Guard evacuated at least 200 people from Wagner Mammoth Pool Campground and assessed them for medical needs.

The Forest Service thanks our partners and the public for their cooperation and understanding of this monumental fire threat. It is critical that all Californians and national forest visitors follow these important closures and restrictions for their own safety and the safety of our firefighters.

The Forest Service manages 18 National Forests in the Pacific Southwest Region, which encompasses over 20 million acres across California, and assists forest landowners in California, Hawaii and the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands. National forests supply 50 percent of the water in California and form the watershed of most major aqueducts and more than 2,400 reservoirs throughout the state. CERA Announces The Cancellation Of their Fools Gold and Crazy Miner Enduros for 2020

CERA has made the hard decision to cancel our Fools Gold and Crazy Miner Enduros for 2020.

To get our permit the Forest Service advised us that we need the blessing of the El Dorado County Health Department.  While we, like everyone else are concerned about the spread of the COVID virus, we did have a plan in place to mitigate this, however the Health Department wouldn’t give an OK.  They reasoned this following the state guidelines of no large gatherings of people (this doesn’t happen at an Enduro) and also on the recommended travel restrictions of no unnecessary travel (those not local coming from places like the bay area and Sacramento areas).

We want to Thank ALL our volunteers that come out to help put on the Enduros and also Thank the competitors that come out to ride, for your ongoing support and assistance in our goals to produce Off Road Motorcycle events on the Georgetown Divide.

We now look forward to working with and for you again next year.  Our plan for 2021 is to run the Fools Gold on the first Sunday in May (our usual date) and the Crazy Miner in October (date still to be determined).  Of course this is all predicated on the reversal of the ongoing situation with the COVID virus.

Please stay safe,

2021 District 36 Sanctioning Procedures

August 12, 2020

To all D36 Clubs and Promoters:

The annual District 36 sanction meeting scheduled for September 12, 2020 has been cancelled.  If an in-person meeting cannot be arranged at a later date, a Zoom meeting will be scheduled.

To be awarded an event date(s) for 2021 meets, you must first be chartered for 2021 with District 36 and the AMA.

2021 District 36 charter applications are available on the D36 website under the Clubs/Promoters resources area that is found on the home page, or by using this link:  https://ama-d36.org/promoters/.  There are two options for 2021 charter applications and payments – there is an online option or there is a print and mail in option.

After your 2021 District 36 charter application is submitted, please send the date(s) that you are requesting for your meets to enduro@ama-d36.org or d36enduro@gmail.com.  The 2021 date selections and the setup of the 2021 schedule will be established online/by email.

2021 date selections are now open and they will close on October 12, 2020.  All charter applications, payments and event date requests must be received by October 12, 2020.  (Event dates will not be considered if a charter application and payment have not been received by the deadline.)  Please remember that all date requests must include the event discipline, as well as the event name and location of the meet.

As a reminder, most of the long-time District 36 clubs and promoters have historic dates.  Any date conflicts will be handled per the District 36 operations manual.

Voting for the open positions on the 2021 D36 Board of Directors will be figured out at a later date.

You all might be wondering why? . . . . You guessed it, the world wide pandemic.  Odd times means odd measures.

Dirt Track Racing Is On!

After a long delay due to COVID, Dirt Track racing is back on at Lodi Cycle Bowl this coming weekend!  Unfortunately due to restrictions still in place general admission spectators won’t be allowed until further notice. Pit passes will be available and there will be a concession stand.

Racer are encouraged to come out to get the District 36 Dirt Track Championship Series started.  There will be special circumstances that will need to be followed….face masks will be required by everyone as well as racers and crews when out of their own pits except racers when racing.  Social distancing will also be required for pit crews when out of their pits and pit pass holders. Also social distancing and masks are required for any crew or pit pass holders that sit in the grandstands. Lodi Motorcycle Club’s goal is to make for exciting racing while hosting a safe environment for all so please adhere to their restrictions.

Of special note: Lodi MC will NOT be supplying masks or other safety protections such as face shields. It will be up to each individual that enters the race grounds to supply these needed items. Also racers will need to bring and use their own pens when filling our entry and other forms as necessary and they ask that you do not share and take your pen with you.

Keep up with Dirt Track Racing and result on our Dirt Track Schedule Page and on the Lodi Motorcycle Club’s website.
