MESSAGE TO GOVERNOR: Oppose AB 1086
Assembly Bill 1086 – a desperate last minute political maneuver to resurrect the failed SB 767 legislation – was sent to Governor Newsome’s desk on September 13 and awaits his oppose or support decision.
The D36 LAO lobbyist, Terry McHale, gave pointed and moving testimony at the September 11 hearing on why AB 1086 is a bad bill.
D36 is asking our members to email the Governor TODAY asking him to OPPOSE AB 1086 for the following reasons:
Sets dangerous precedent for local political activists to close ANY State Park unit they object to.
Disenfranchises an important user community and recreation activity.
Ignores previous legislative action that authorized legal OHV use on lands purchased with dedicated funds.
Not one of the AB 1086 proponents opposed the purchase and authorizing legislation.
The Department of Finance opposed SB 767.

OHV has a story to tell and you will get a clearer understanding of why it has taken three attempts and a skirting of the senate rules to move the bill. The bill will go to the governor and we will have a template for an opposition letter.
I am proud of how well OHV does against big odds in a legislature controlled by urban democrats. The senators, however, to be fair, were very conscientious and agreed with many of our concerns.

This race, hosted by the Ghostriders MC, has been rescheduled to this new date. Originally set for the spring, with this new date it will now be counted in the fall Series for B & C Championship points

Oppose tariffs on EU motorcycles parts, and accessories

The Office of United States Trade Representative, as part of a dispute over aircraft subsidies, has proposed 100 percent tariffs on motorcycles imported from countries in the European Union with an engine size between 500cc and 700cc, along with parts and accessories.
The American Motorcyclist Association is joining others in the motorcycling community to oppose the USTR’s latest ill-conceived proposal. Motorcyclists should not be penalized with exorbitant tariffs because of an unrelated trade dispute. Any trade sanctions imposed as a result of this dispute should come from more closely related industries or products.
To oppose this tariff, the AMA is asking our members to sign this petition. The petition will be presented to the USTR to demonstrate the motorcycling public’s opposition to the proposal. Please take a moment and complete the form below to protect the future of motorcycling.
Motorcyclists who depend on parts from Europe to keep their motorcycles in safe, working order will face increased cost and decreased availability under this proposal. This will result in motorcyclists putting off critical maintenance and will keep their vehicles off the road, negatively affecting the countless small businesses that depend on motorcycle-based tourism. Additionally, this proposed tariff will cause serious, and potentially irreversible, harm to American small- and medium-sized business owners selling the motorcycles, parts and accessories.
Should the availability of products be hindered through unjustified trade sanctions on European-produced motorcycles, dealerships may close, leaving countless Americans without jobs. The negative effects of the proposed trade sanctions will not only harm the motorcycle sales industry, but will spread through the aftermarket equipment sector, recreation equipment sales, the sports entertainment industry and further down the line.
After attending and/or reviewing video and other documents obtained over the years from various public meetings related to “toxic dust ” supposedly created by OHV use at Oceano Dunes SVRA, I have a deep concern that Coastal Commission Staff have perpetuated and promoted a myth created by the San Luis Obispo Air Pollution Control District (APCD) that the air in Nipomo Mesa contains dangerous amounts of crystalline silica dust.
Guarding Our Right To Ride
Crystalline silica dust is an acute inhalation health risk. It can cause silicosis and lung cancer and so is regulated by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) based on exposure during an 8 hour work day.
However, airborne particulate matter—dust/blowing sand—encountered in a commercial, residential or rural environment is not hazardous like silica dust though it is still regulated by federal and state air quality agencies. These regulations are based on PM10 dust concentrations averaged over a 24-hour period and assume the dust does not include particles of acute toxicity, such as crystalline silica.
For more than 10 years, the APCD has made unsubstantiated claims that PM10 detected on the Mesa contains toxic amounts of crystalline silica dust. Further, the APCD said the silica dust was from OHV use at the SVRA. These claims were presented in various APCD reports and correspondence, and stated by APCD representatives at public meetings. The claims were then repeated and amplified by public officials, agencies, members of the public, and the local press.
At a March 21, 2018 meeting of the APCD’s Hearing Board, APCD’s Larry Allen was forced to concede publicly that crystalline silica in dust on the Nipomo Mesa was not an issue. He stated, “Well, you know it’s a red herring…it has no bearing whatsoever.”
It is a falsehood that the air of Nipomo Mesa contains hazardous amounts of crystalline silica dust. It is just one of many falsehoods and misleading statements made by the APCD in its quest to malign a state park and legal OHV recreation.
The APCD toxic dust hoax should rightfully invalidate the stipulated order of abatement and other management decisions that were based on a lie.
The Stewards of the Sierra National Forest have rescheduled their Summer Dual Sport/Adventure rides to run September 6, 7, 8. Seems there’s still a little too much snow at the higher elevations. The ride was originally scheduled to run this coming weekend.
For the Dual Sport bikes……There will be a Self-Guided Dual Sport Adventure ride which will consist of great back roads and trails throughout the area. The route will be approximately 120 miles on Saturday and 80 miles on Sunday. Optional hard way splits for the more experienced riders.
