CERA Cancels The Crazy Miner Family Enduro.

The California Enduro Riders Association has announced the cancellation of the 2022 Crazy Miner Family Enduro.  This cancellation is the result or a Forest Service Order closing the Forest to all users in the area surrounding the Mosquito Forest Fire.  This closure extends south to include the Rock Creek Trail System where the Fools Gold and Crazy Miner are held each year.

Looking forward, CERA has secured May 6 & 7, 2023 for their Enduros.  we’re going back to the “Enduro Weekend” with the Crazy Miner running on Saturday the 6th and the Fools Gold running Sunday the 7th.  The clubs success of running Enduros in the spring is is much greater that the past fall events.  We will be looking for a big turnout so plan ahead!  It’s rumored that the Fools Gold will be a re-start format so computers, watches, and roll charts would be unnecessary if this happens.  The format will be announced well in advance.

CERA will also be looking for volunteers to help out.  It’s all on the job training…..no experience necessary.

Thank you for your past and future support of the Club!

SEN. BRIAN JONES’ BILL TO SAVE OFF-ROAD COMPETITION IN CALIFORNIA ADVANCES IN SENATE

May 26, 2022 (Washington, D.C.) – Legislation by Sen. Brian Jones to save off-road vehicle competitions in California was unanimously approved Wednesday by the state Senate.

Senate Bill 894 by the Republican from Santee would replace the two-decade-old “red sticker” program administered by the California Air Resources Board that expired last year.

“The Senate recognized that this important measure is not just for the OHV community, but also for environmental programs and local economies throughout California,” said Jones.

“Many people have worked tirelessly over the last three years on this bipartisan compromise. I am hopeful that the Assembly will join the Senate in approving SB 894,” he said.

An earlier version of the bill was passed in the Senate last year, but did not come up for a vote in the Assembly.

Jones’ office said the new bill is “narrowly tailored for legitimate competitors” practicing and racing on public lands, adding that it will help “the economy of many rural and suburban regions that have long hosted competitions.”

Sen. Ben Hueso of San Diego co-authored the bill.

The LAO and Senator Jones along with other legislators, the administration, and co-sponsors at the MC Dealers Assn. continue to work hard on smoothing the path that our competition bill (SB 894) must navigate through the legislature.  The LAO and partners remain committed to getting new 2022+ model year competition bikes registered and titled with the DMV and to resolve any confusion with state and federal law enforcement about the definition of closed course and allowing competition bikes to compete at sanctioned competition events (i.e. GPs, Hare Scrambles, enduros, etc) held on public lands.

PSA – TAKE ACTION ON BLM DRAFT PLAN FOR WILLIAMS HILL OHV AREA

TAKE ACTION ON BLM ALTERNATIVES FOR WILLIAMS HILL OHV AREA

BLM ZOOM CALL ON PLAN – May 11

PUBLIC COMMENTS DUE – May 23

Back in 2021, the BLM’s Central Coast Field Office asked the OHV community and other stakeholders for scoping comments for their planning process at Williams Hill OHV area to enhance sustainable OHV recreation opportunities there in an effort to address the increased demand – in our post-COVID world – for managed motorized and non-motorized recreation.

Exiting Routes at Williams Hill

Thanks to your early scoping comments, the BLM has developed a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and is asking the public to review it and provide comments.  In response to those comments, the BLM has prepared two Action Alternatives which are Alt. A and Alt. B.  See highlights in paragraph below.

Williams Hill Recreation Area currently provides off-highway vehicle recreational opportunities on 15 miles of roads and trails.  The draft EA includes up to 21 miles of additional trails, which would provide opportunities to establish new loop routes that can accommodate more visitors and provide an enhanced recreational experience; expanding campground and staging facilities; and a training track for less experienced riders. The proposals include strategies to reduce unauthorized entry onto private lands.

On May 11 from 5-6:30pm, there is a zoom public meeting where you can learn more about their proposals.

  COMMENTS DUE BY MAY 23

More information can be found on the project website at https://go.usa.gov/x6TWt

Written comments may be submitted electronically to BLM_CA_Web_CC@blm.gov

Or by mail: BLM Central Coast Field Office, Attn: Williams Hill OHV Planning EA, 940 2nd Avenue, Marina, CA  93933.

The BLM has prepared this plan with support from the California State Parks’ Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Division, recognizing that nature and recreational opportunities on public land are essential to the health, well-being, and prosperity of every family and community in America.

Thanks in advance for your participation in the planning process.
